Duties
Serving as a Law Enforcement Specialist (Physical Techniques Instructor/TACMED) GS-1801-12 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the First Responder and Fitness Branch (FRF), Physical Techniques Division (PTD), Core Training Operations Directorate under the Office of the Associate Director for Training Operations and is located in Glynco, Georgia.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve a critical role in training and developing law enforcement personnel in both the
Physical Techniques Division (Physical Techniques Instructor) and Enforcement Operations Division (Basic Tactics Instructor). Typical assignments include:
Ensuring class curriculum is administered in the proper sequence and that deviations from the established schedules receive prior approval and ensures all related training complies with applicable policies and procedures.
Participating in developing program/course material in the PTD instructional field. Initiates suggestions and recommendations for program/course content changes and develops different approaches and methods of instruction.
Participating in the analytical processes involved in the development and delivery of training courses.
Serving as a Law Enforcement Specialist (Physical Techniques Instructor Tactical Medical) planning and conducting classroom, laboratory, and/or field instruction sessions as part of the PTD training program.
Using approved lesson plans as a guide, delivers training in various law enforcement topics to include: Tactical Medical, Active Shooter Threat Response, CPR, AED and First Aid, and Control Tactics.
Coordinating the shipment and distribution of tactical medical supplies, inspect materials, track shipments, manage inventory, and communicate with federal, state and local customers and third-party service providers.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain FLETC Law Enforcement Instructor certification within 12 months of employment.

- You will be required to undergo pre-appointment and random drug testing for illegal drug use. Employment is contingent upon favorable results.
- You must be able to meet job-related medical and/or fitness standards. You will be subject to an initial and annual physical examination that measures your visual, hearing, and physical acuity.
- You will be subject to rotation to other programs and/or training sections in order to provide depth to the FLETC’s instructor cadre.
- This position is eligible for situational-only telework based on agency policy.
- You may be required to work weekends and federal holidays.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and Defibrillator Training Certification within 12 months of employment.
- You must complete a Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) test. The PEB is a fitness test consisting of five elements. You must pass the PEB with a minimum 40 percentile in each element.
- You must complete a physical examination conducted by our agency's Medical Officer. This is a routine physical exam in accordance with Optional Form 178. No invasive procedures will be included (e.g., blood work).
- Position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment - persons convicted of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence are prohibited from occupying this position.
- Shift work may be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- This position is designated as Emergency Essential. You will be required to sustain FLETC operations in the event of a localized situation, such as inclement weather, interruptions to power, or dismissal or closure of DHS operations or services.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: In order to be considered for this position you must:
A. Possess experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or agent with full arrest authority in the prevention, detection, apprehension, detention and/or investigation of felony and/or misdemeanor violations of federal, state, local, tribal, or military criminal laws;
-OR-
B. Have held a federal civilian position in the 1801 occupational series.
-AND-
Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
Performing law enforcement duties that require you to carry and qualify with a firearm, make arrests, develop reasonable suspicion/probable cause to conduct frisks and searches incident to arrest to include experience in the training and evaluation of officers in the proper application of use of force techniques, law enforcement tactical techniques, active shooter response, and tactical medical procedures. OR
Instructing, developing and evaluating basic law enforcement training curriculum in the in the proper application of use of force techniques, law enforcement tactical techniques, active shooter response, and tactical medical procedures.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
