The primary purpose of this position, HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (MILITARY), GS-0203-06, is to review, process, counsel, and administer action for member's separating or retiring from the USAF.
Duties
- Review and organize all enlisted administrative discharge cases and officer involuntary separation cases and prepare discharge certificates to ensure compliance with AFI 36-2208 and AFI 36-3207.
- Counsel and complete all on-base and returning overseas members on separation and retirement processing procedures.
- Counsel enlisted personnel on hardship discharges, PALACE CHASE, conscientious objector applications, pregnancy, miscellaneous, and other applications for voluntary separation in accordance with Air Force Instructions 36-2208, 36-3207, and other applicable regulations.
- Update and Monitor MilPDS and office database for currency and accuracy of information, performing appropriate updates to ensure system integrity and accomplish office filing.
- Review and process no-fee passports.

- Incumbent must support mobility operations in an exercise or contingency situation
- May be required to work irregular shifts/overtime in performing such duties
- The actual work performed in this position has been reviewed and determined that it does not meet any of the exemption criteria defined in 5 CFR 551. This position has been designated as nonexempt.
- PHYSICAL EFFORT: This is primarily a sedentary position. The work requires long periods of sitting in one position, concentration ability and often working at a fast pace for several hours at a time.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a normal office setting where basic safety precautions are required.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-05) level or equivalent (grade level, pay schedule, pay band, etc.) and is described in detail in their resume. Specialized experience is described as experience researching instructions and applying them to various rules, procedures, and operations, preparing and analyzing written correspondence, and the ability to update office databases and comply with office filing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of separations and retirement rules, procedures, or operations.
2. Knowledge of applicable regulations and directives.
3. Knowledge of Personnel Data Systems and Pay Systems.
4. Ability to use computer and associated programs.
5. Ability to use and maintain a high degree of empathy, tact and diplomacy when advising individuals of separating/ retiring procedures.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
