Duties

Physician Applicants - Education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Professional Standards Board and Compensation Panel in determining the salary of the applicant selected. Exceptions to the salary cap must be approved. Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Appraised Value Offer (AVO): Not Authorized Relocation Expenses: Not Authorized The Executive Director (ED), National Infectious Diseases Service (NIDS) is a field based Veterans Health Administration Central Office (VHACO) Service. The ED, NIDS reports to the Deputy Chief Officer (DCO), Specialty Care Program Office (SCPO), Clinical Services. The ED serves as a national subject matter expert in infectious diseases, infection prevention and control, infectious diseases clinical management activities, and biosurveillance. S/he directs and oversees the work of highly professional clinical, administrative, and scientific personnel. The ED develops short and long term goals, objectives, priorities, and plans for the programs consistent with the Veteran Affairs (VA) and Veteran Health Administration (VAH) missions, strategies, and goals. The Executive Director is responsible for establishing system-wide policies and building, as well as improving VHA's delivery of services, and assessment of services as a premier national healthcare system. S/he will serve as the senior/principal advisor and leader of VHA's national programs and policies related to infectious diseases. This position requires knowledge of a wide variety of principles, concepts, methods, and techniques to analyze, evaluate, and provide advice to senior VA leaders on difficult and complex topics and issues.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/29/2023. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR A PHYSICIAN U.S. Citizen English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Degree of doctor of medicine Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. Residency Training Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association, or other residences which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided appropriate professional training. Licensure Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. DEMONSTRATED LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess extensive leadership experience in the health care arena sufficient to qualify for the equivalent of a senior executive equivalent position within the Federal service. In addition, the incumbent is broadly acquainted with clinical treatment modalities, administrative and clinical support systems and is knowledgeable about multifaceted health care delivery systems. TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (TQ): Completed Fellowship Training in Infectious Diseases Demonstrated expertise in Medical Epidemiology REFERENCES: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. Preferred Requirements: Demonstrated leadership ability related to Clinical Infectious Diseases, Infection Prevention and Control, Health Policy and Epidemiology, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus/Multidrug-resistant Organisms in the Federal system, private sector, or international community. Board Certified in Infectious Diseases
