The LETC serves as a National Training Center and a Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy LETC, accredited through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation Board, for all Law Enforcement Training within the VA. The LETC Legal Training Program aims to build student officer proficiency in understanding and applying federal laws and procedures ensuring the preservation of constitutional protections as well as providing all agency officers and students with the current information.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. Juris Doctorate degree preferred. -OR-
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above. -AND-
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as conducting detailed legal research; building student proficiency in federal laws and procedures through developing and revising curriculum and lesson plans in areas such as Federal Court Procedures, Military Law, Terrorism and National Security Law, Courtroom Testimony, providing training programs for law enforcement..

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Requirements: The work requires walking, standing, bending, sitting, ordering and carrying books, computers, packages and/or containers. Travel to field locations to coordinate or deliver training may be involved. Work may also involve occasional physical exertion while demonstrating a variety of role-playing activities and law enforcement techniques and methods.
