You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Occupational Safety and Health Department (OSHD) of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII.
Duties
You will recommend measures and methods to correct safety and occupational health deficiencies.
You will prepare safety guides and internal instructions for safety risks encountered in an assigned area of responsibility.
You will advise senior level management officials within the assigned area(s) on the status of the safety and occupational health programs.
You will prepare and revise safety instructions and guides that are relevant to current or planned operations.
You will review purchase requests and procurement documents for the acquisition of equipment to ensure that tools, equipment and supplies conform to applicable regulations and standards.
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be on the emergency recall roster and may be required to respond to emergencies such as accident/injury scenes and hazardous material spill responses during evenings, weekends or holidays.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting safety investigations of employee accidents and mishaps; 2) Developing briefs, summaries, and/or training materials to help promote safety initiatives or findings; 3) Providing recommendations and resolutions to construction/industrial worksite and operational safety issues; 4) Performing monitoring tasks of occupational environment using a variety of instruments to determine potentially unsafe exposures; 5) Managing and administering safety and occupational health programs IAW OSHA requirements, existing Navy/DoD regulations, etc..

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
OR
Possession of an LL.M., if related to this position being filled.
