Duties

Duties of the Telephone Operator include, but are not limited to the following: Operates agency telephone Systems to receive and connect incoming and outgoing calls. Interviews incoming caller to determine the proper routing of the call. Routes calls to their proper destination and provides telephone and organizational information to callers. Operates the installation paging system, which includes messages, physician paging, code blue, emergency response for local or national conditions, and notifications. Regularly handles a variety of difficult calls, requiring personal involvement on the part of the incumbent, such as, threatening, abusive, or distraught callers. Work Schedule: Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30pm Telework: Not Authorized Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/19/2023. General Experience: Applicant must have 1 year of general experience or 2 years of education above High School or a combination of the two if you meet federal service eligibility as described above. General experience is progressively responsible for clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Examples: serving as a receptionist or any kind of work that involved frequent telephone contacts. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: ClericalCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Decision MakingOrganizational AwarenessTechnical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is mainly sedentary in nature but requires a high degree of concentration and the ability to work under pressure and stress within specified time frames.
