These temporary positions are located in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, in the Maintenance Division, Roads and Trails Branch. Although work is performed all through the park, employee will report to work at the Maintenance Compound in Dingmans Ferry, PA. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is late April - late October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

Duties

Works under the direction and supervision of the Trails Supervisor. Is responsible for developing and recommending to the Trails Supervisor long range trail maintenance programs, operating trail maintenance programs, necessary trail program adjustments, and plans and schedules for trail maintenance. This position is a working leader of a five- to eight-person trail crew. Coordinates with the Trails Supervisor, trail maintenance projects utilizing Volunteers in the Park, Park Partners, DEWA staff and other labor pools. Area Information: Located in the Pocono Mountains, just 80 miles west of New York City and 100 miles north of Philadelphia, the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area attracts over 5-million visitors each year. The 70,000-acre park also includes the Middle Delaware National Scenic and Recreation Area and 26 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Nearby towns of Stroudsburg, PA, Port Jervis, NY, and Newton, NJ provide all services, including medical services and other community needs. Additionally, several smaller communities are adjacent to the park. Summers and winters are generally mild with average summer temperatures about 80 degrees, with some humidity, and average winter temperatures about 30 degrees.
