Duties
Interviews, observes, and performs physical examinations, with patient, family members, and guardians to obtain and record vitals, chief complaints,
health-issues, medications, medical history, and relevant data; and analyzes information and data collected utilizing nursing principles and techniques.
Reviews and executes physician’s orders, and coordinates with other healthcare team members, as appropriate.
Collects blood and culture specimens and submits for laboratory testing; interprets and reports abnormal diagnostic data and changes in symptoms;
identifies need for follow-up; orders diagnostic studies according to data interpretation; and executes physician orders as appropriate.
Performs one-on-one and group teaching sessions with patients, family members, and guardians ensuring that they are educated on the patient’s prescribed
health care plan, their role in obtaining wellness and improvement, and redirecting behaviors towards acceptance.
Performs nursing and administrative management assessments to ensure effective, efficient, safe, and compliant operations.
Establishes, reviews, and makes recommendations for efficiencies and improvements to internal nursing and administrative processes and procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- To obtain and maintain registered nursing licensure.
- To obtain and maintain licensure in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
- A National Agency Check and Written Inquiries (NACI) and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to include fingerprints. A Child Care Background Check Required:
- National agency check with written inquiries (NACI) and state and criminal history repository (SCHR) checks will be required as a condition of employment.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- To obtain a pre-employment physical.
- As a position covered by the Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct 1996, requiring Hepatitis B Immunization unless exempted by a physician.
- To obtain mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations; applicants tentatively
- To work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- As designated on-call status in support of unit contingency plans.
- As a designated essential during inclement weather or other appropriate emergency conditions.
- Obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Nurse Recognition Program (NRP) within six-months of employment as required by assigned department.

Basic Requirement for Nurse:
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes providing comprehensive nursing care to medical and surgical patients, administering medications, assessing patient conditions and overseeing nursing personnel in the provision of care. OR
Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet one of the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing program.
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education from a professional nursing program.
