Duties
This position is located in the Department of Program Services (DPS), Probation and Pretrial Services Office (PPSO), Training and Safety Division (TSD). The PPSO manages, oversees, and supports the judiciary's probation and pretrial services program. The TSD provides training to probation and pretrial services officers and sets professional requirement for the officer position.
This position will report to the Supervisory Probation Administrator in the Training and Skills Branch, Training and Safety Division (TSD), Probation and Pretrial Services Office (PPSO). The PPSO is seeking a self-motivated, professional Probation Administrator to perform a variety of duties in support of the Federal Probation and Pretrial Academy's (FPPA) mission. The incumbent will be responsible for achieving efficient administration of the probation and pretrial services system. The ideal candidate must possess knowledge and experience in evidence-based practices, adult learning, and various roles of a United States probation and pretrial services officer. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will exemplify strong communication, teamwork, cooperation, leadership, technical proficiency, presentation skills, organizational skills, critical thinking, judgment, and accountability.
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Developing, delivering, and evaluating training curricula for federal probation and pretrial services officers.
Staying informed on research, national policies and procedures, and other sources of information as they relate to training curricula.
Serving as an authority regarding probation and pretrial services policies and procedures to the Federal Probation and Pretrial Services system and other stakeholders.
Providing technical assistance and conducting training programs.
Assisting with program and academy accreditation through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board.
Scheduling, planning, and conducting meetings with FPPA staff and stakeholders to provide information related to training.
Organizing, scheduling, and supporting training programs, including the Initial Probation and Pretrial Training Program, to include developing and conducting training orientations, working with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and other agencies, and assisting with the needs of students and other stakeholders.
Providing administrative oversight and assessing procedures in probation and pretrial services offices, including participating in office reviews and local and national committees.
Representing the agency to high level officials on complex operational issues (e.g., officer training and performance) related to probation and pretrial services.
Completing any and all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience in developing, conducting, and evaluating evidence-based training for federal probation and pretrial services officers.
Education
The basic qualifications can be met in one of three ways:
- Degree in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
- Combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
- Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
