You will serve as a Police Officer (Instructor) in the Force Protection Division of NAVSTA MAYPORT FL SEC DET.

Duties

You will conduct Firearms Safety instruction in accordance with the Weapons Qualifications requirements for the use and care of assigned firearms. You will study law enforcement procedures or techniques to learn how to enforce laws. You will monitor law enforcement personnel to ensure compliance with agency standards and policies governing employee proficiency in the use and care of assigned firearms. You will discuss with students the procedures required in law enforcement. You will develop guidance on administrative polices, practices, and procedures concerning physical security and law enforcement. You will write guidance or create reference materials to assist in training police officers.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Must graduate from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program.
  • Must either currently possess or be able to obtain certification as EVOC Instructor, Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor, Small Arms Marksmanship Instructor/Range Safety Officer, Radar Speed Measuring Instructor, and/or CPR Instructor.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Providing instruction on the application of law enforcement methods, and investigative procedures, and techniques when resolving and responding to crimes and other incidents; 2) Preparing course materials and instructional methods and theories used in a Police Officer's training environment; 3) Developing course materials and techniques to train law enforcement personnel; and 4) Providing classroom and practical instruction on police equipment and firearms use, safety, and maintenance.
