About the Position: At the Letterkenny Munitions Center in the Receipts and Issues Division, this position serves as Container Handler Operator (Motor Vehicle Operator) operating various makes, types, and sizes of container handling equipment, capable of lifting up to 99,000 pounds as high as 48 feet, diesel-powered truck tractor with semi-trailer and forklifts capable of lifting up to 36,000 lbs.

Duties

Load, unload, lift, and move Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) and Forty Foot Equivalent Units (FEU) containers loaded with ammunition, explosives, and components including guided missiles, bombs, high explosives, and ammunition components. Perform precision work such as placing containers on rail cars and truck trailers and stacking in staging areas. Perform required operator's maintenance and reporting. Perform inspections of TEU’s and FEU’s upon receipt of containers and after maintenance is performed on the containers. Operate a gasoline or diesel-powered truck tractor with semi-trailer, lift trailer, or van to haul a wide variety of high explosives, munitions, and components. Handle material such as high explosives, ammunition components, guided missiles, rockets, etc. Operate an electric- or gasoline-powered fork lift capable of lifting up to 36,000 pounds as high as 240 inches.

Work is performed where there is unpleasant dust, dirt, fumes, and noise from truck operations. May wear masks, gloves, goggles, and rubber books as appropriate. Working Conditions: Equipment is operated outside during periods of extreme heat and cold from a cab that is enclosed. Operator is subject to noise, dirt, dust, and fumes; and is exposed to danger from moving machinery and the overturning of the container handler. Accomplishment of duties requires the wearing of protective clothing such as safety shoes, glasses, coveralls, etc. There is a chance of injuries ranging from loss of life to burns, cuts, bruises, strains, and nausea.
