The incumbent performs secretarial duties in direct support of the Education Service. The Secretary is responsible for assisting in the coordination of information within education service. As a member of the administrative support staff, the incumbent is called upon to provide support to Senior Leadership. This requires knowledge of overall leadership operations. The secretary performs a variety of administrative or executive support tasks that are highly confidential and sensitive.
Duties
Major duties include:
Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, i.e., identity, purpose of call and relative importance in relation to availability of staff members.
Escorts/refers callers to proper personnel.
Provides information within standard office procedure.
Tracks suspense dates, controlled correspondence, extra view request and reports.
Ensures established deadline are met.
Reviews documents prepared for signature.
Arranges travel for Education Leaders
Proofreads completed work for
Uses MS Word or comparable word processing software to execute several office automations functions.
Reads and screens incoming correspondence and reports.
Reviews and prepares all congressional correspondence received for necessary action.
Serves as an alternate to update and maintain student data, program information.
Scheduling employees and maintaining attendance records for Education Service classes and orientation.
Alternate timekeeper for the Education Service
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/18/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: proficient use of Microsoft office (word, outlook), excel and power point software, and computer skills. Strong computer and typing skills, Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work and function to ensure the education office activities are planned, tracked, coordinated, and organized.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Environment: The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
