Duties
Perform bio-psychosocial assessments on behavioral health patients to determine a diagnosis.
Perform routine case management functions including telephonic monitoring of symptom severity and/or adherence to primary care treatment plans.
Provide targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and/or functional status focused on the presenting problem.
Formulate behavioral health interventions in a primary care setting.
Provide consultation services for a subset of patients who require ongoing monitoring and follow-up.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements.
- Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet Physical Efforts requirements. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination. This position requires the ability to lift 30 lbs.
- This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
- Incumbent may be required to perform call duties; work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
- The work will require the incumbent to work evenings/nights, rotating shifts, extended hours or other schedules common to hospital operations.
- This position requires occasional TDY - 5%.
- Valid state license as a clinical social worker.

Minimum Qualifications for the GS-09: Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-11: Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with patient bio-psychosocial evaluations, implementing behavioral health treatment plans, and assisting with providing individual or group clinical counseling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Licensure: The GS-11 and GS-12 Social Worker positions require a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
