Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.

Duties

Conducts routine inspections and investigative work in enforcing occupational safety and health laws Conducts training in accident prevention, safety work methods, and hazard identification Provides recommendations for abatement of unsafe work habits and/or conditions incompliance with safety standards, regulations, policies, procedures, and operating instructions. Monitors work-order submission, progress, and completion for assigned areas and ensures that abatement plans are prepared when necessary Investigates incidents/accidents to initiate ways to prevent or reduce such accidents and to recommend corrective measures

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as: Apply recognized safety, environmental, and health principles, standards, laws and techniques to assist in the management and evaluation of a safety or occupational health program or program element; provide technical advice and guidance to management and employees on safety and occupational health requirements; assist in the development of standards, regulations, practices and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards; and assist in inspecting work practices policies and procedures for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) and other Federal/state regulations in resolving safety issues; 2) Performing structural, electrical, mechanical and ergonomic safety design analysis on various machines, systems, processes and facilities; 3) Collecting and analyzing program data for developing safe/unsafe trend analysis; 4) Mitigating unsafe conditions and operations. NOTE: This experience must be fully supported by the information in your resume. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience.

Education

Substitution of Education for Experience: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education, Master's or equivalent graduate degree, may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html).

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement
