This position is a working leader assigned responsibility for building and utility maintenance work. Provides daily direction to at least three (3) workers to accomplish trades work on a regular basis and recurring part of the job and exercised on a substantially full time and continuing basis.

Duties

As a working leader you will be required to maintain current knowledge, and answer questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Pass on to other workers the instructions received from the supervisor by assigning daily tasks to individuals of the work group. Demonstrate proper work methods and work along with others to set a work pace. Ensure necessary plans, materials, supplies, equipment, and tools are available when needed. Recommend operations needs per work requests to the supervisor. Answer workers questions or obtain needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that arise during the process of a project. Check work in progress and upon completion to determine/ensure supervisor's instructions are being followed and to meet deadlines. Reports progress and delays to the supervisor and on overall operations and problems. Document before and after results of project completion by submitting photographs to supervisor. Ensures safety and housekeeping rules are followed and answers questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems. Use of proper safety equipment (PPE, ear protection, chaps, hi-visibility, personal floatation device etc.). Additionally, this position performs the following non-supervisory work emphasized in Historic Preservation (in TWO or more of the eight trades listed) involved in the maintenance and repair of interior coverings, exterior structures, on cultural landscapes, historic light stations, fisheries, coast guard quarters, docks and other buildings and related fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices. Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Masonry, Wood Working, Roofing, and Electrical. Career Seasonal Appointment: The employee will work during annually recurring periods of employment, which will last at least six (6) months but total less than twelve (12) months per calendar year. When operational needs and/or funds are not available, the selectee will be placed in non-pay status. Placement in non-pay status will not be on a sporadic, occasional, or unplanned basis. The season is expected to last seven (7) months, mid-March through late-October. The employee is expected to be in non-duty/non-pay status from early late-October through mid-March.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to lead or supervise (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation repair, etc. Technical practices (Theoretical, Precise, and Artistic) Use of measuring instruments Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. SCREEN OUT: work experience demonstrates ability to organized assignments for subordinates, estimate materials and manpower, prepare work orders and reports, train others on maintenance work in at least two of the follow trades (Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Masonry, Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment Plant Operations, Roofing, or Electrical), explain work manuals and procedures, and motivate others to work efficiently and productively. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
