You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST (TACTICAL) in the MARINE FORCES RESERVE of MARFORRES NOLA.

Duties

You will serve as the lead trainer by scheduling classes preparing syllabuses and teaching outlines for subordinate safety and occupational health specialists. You will develop, plan, organize, coordinate, administer and evaluate a comprehensive occupational safety and health, traffic, and recreational/off-duty safety program. You will provide guidance, recommendations, and assistance to installation military and civilian personnel concerning established safety methods and techniques in order to eliminate and reduce exposure to hazards, mishaps, and personal injuries. You will assist in designated command investigations. You will provide technical safety program management oversight for mandated programs.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:providing technical advice on safety programs to commands and implementing technical safety standards, codes, and safety requirements for a variety of operations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successfully completed Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, with major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours (or 36 quarter hours) of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology

OR

OR

A combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal 100 percent.
