Duties
As an Engineering Technician, you will perform the following:
Conduct installation and maintenance of all National Weather Service (NWS) facilities and equipment, including maintaining highly sophisticated facility operating systems; installing, repairing, or renovating cables and power distribution, electrical wiring, and conduit; planning and implementing engineering studies to investigate problems and proposes solutions.
Conduct site surveys to facilitate NWS activities, as well as prepare and submit required technical plans for the maintenance, repair, construction, upgrades, etc. of NWS facilities, structures, utilities, and land development.
Interface with Federal agencies, private sector contractors/vendors, and other activities regarding policies, services, design, safety, environmental compliance, and approaches toward project(s) completion.
Plan and administer various contracts to operate, maintain, and upgrade NWS facilities.

EDUCATION: There is no positive education requirement for this position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify for a GS-11:
Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Conducting facilities engineering operations and maintenance activities for grounds, facilities, buildings and related fixtures and equipment;
Coordinating facility maintenance, repair, or construction projects; and
Assisting with the administration of engineering, maintenance, or service contracts that support facilities operations.
