About the Position: Serves as Transportation Assistant (OA) in planning, coordinating, directing, controlling, and expediting the movement of cargo through terminals within the area of responsibility (AOR).
Duties
Utilize multiple transportation systems to input and extract data for cargo handling and movement.
Identify cargo characteristics; determine special handling requirements, required priority, and delivery dates.
Answer telephone and message queries relating to the movement of DoD cargo transiting the installation.
Coordinate arrangements to include movement dates and times for equipment spotting to load retrograde cargo.
Perform cargo-checking functions to prepare vessel papers and provide in transit visibility.
Monitor reports of shipment discrepancies, late deliveries, and inadequate equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Incumbent may be required to serve a one year Term trial period.
- Incumbent may be required to travel up to 15%.
- May be required to perform extended work days/weeks to conform to military schedules and to meet emergency situations.
- Position requires a valid US driver license.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 2 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.
- This a position obligated to another employee. When that employee returns you will be required to vacate the position.
- Incumbent is required to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, (5CFR Part 2634, Subpart I Confidential Financial Disclosure Reports) upon entering the position and annually.
- Incumbent may be required to lift objects up to 25lbs.
- This position requires that the incumbent be a qualified typist.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparation of transportation documents for shipments of cargo by commercial carrier and rail using enterprise automated software/systems, specifically Global Air Transportation Execution System (GATES), Global Freight Management (GFM), or Electronic Transportation Acquisition (ETA). Prepares manifests of vessels, coordinates Commercial Bill of Lading's (CBL's) and awards freight to multiple transportation modes with commercial logistic providers for importing and exporting of cargo through ocean terminals. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
