The Pacific West Region is recruiting for summer seasonal Laborer (MVO), WG-3502-4 positions intended to assist permanent staff with laboring field work.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April-June but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2024.

Major Duties:
Operate and maintain hand and power tools (e.g. mowers, shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, blowers, etc.) to maintain buildings, grounds, and roads.
Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc.
Perform janitorial work on Park grounds (e.g. cleaning bathrooms, emptying receptacles, maintaining visitor contact stations, etc.)
Maintain lawns and grounds; identify invasive plants to eradicate.
Transport people or materials in a motor vehicle to and from destinations within the Park.
Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 - 100 pounds (or more) with assistance.
Working Conditions: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area.
North Cascades NP: Stehekin is a remote mountain town located at the north end of Lake Chelan. Access is by daily passenger ferry, private aircraft or hiking (summer only, shortest route is 17 miles). Ferries to Stehekin from Chelan range from $50 - $86 round trip. No roads lead into Stehekin, but an interior road allows bicycles and barged-in vehicles. There are rental cabins, a motel, convenience store, and restaurant at the landing. A post office, market garden, dude ranch, bakery, and various tourist businesses such as bicycle rental and vacation rentals can be found in the town of Stehekin. Shopping, doctors, hospital and other services are not available in Stehekin but are available in Chelan. Larger shopping centers and hospitals are available in Wenatchee, WA, 43 miles from the ferry landing. Groceries and other supplies are ordered by email and shipped on the ferry at the employee's expense. Emergency medical transport is by boat or helicopter and weather dependent. Recreation consists of outdoor and craft/hobby activities. No television, cell service, landline phone, or internet is available except by privately purchased satellite services. However, one pay phone is available at the Stehekin Landing, and wifi may be available at the maintenance yard and the landing. The community has approximately 75 year-round residents and a one room K-8 school. Summers are warm and dry, and winters average 120 inches of snow.
