Duties

You will inspect and operate potable water systems, pumping stations, and their associated controls to adjust the taste, odor, physical, chemical, or bacteriological content of water. You will conduct daily operation and operational inspections of sewage lift and pumping stations to verify operation readiness. You will perform preventative maintenance for sewage lift, pumping stations, and other sanitary sewage commodity system equipment to maintain operational reliability. You will monitor operation of an oil water separator for ground water pump and treatment facility. You will clean and unstop sewer lines throughout a plant to prevent blockages.

Requirements

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Utilities Systems Operator without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by: 1) Conducts daily operation and operation maintenance of sewage lift and pumping stations; 2) Reads system maps, locate valves, operate valves and pumps, and handle chemical agents; 3) Controls the flow of water from various pumping stations, increasing or decreasing according to stations demands. ***Your resume must demonstrate this experience in order to qualify. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires considerable walking, standing, and climbing stairs and ladders; uses light to moderate effort to turn valves, controls and performs maintenance work; uses moderate to heavy effort to unload, stack or empty chemicals and compounds. Weights range from 0 to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Working in pumping stations or other enclosures sometimes requires contact with running motors, pumps, and machinery causing loud noises and poor ventilation. Sometimes comes in contact with fumes from chlorine and requires the wearing of a respirator; is exposed to the danger of falling into open tanks and manholes. Must work in confined spaces. Is exposed to infections and diseases such as typhoid, paratyphoid and dysentery while working around sewage and extremely dirty working areas. ls required to use safety equipment such as respirators in the presence of gases and fumes such as chlorine, methane and carbon dioxide.
