Duties
You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repairs, and replacement of analog and direct digital control (DDC) systems and equipment.
You will dismantle, repair, and reassemble units such as pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers, and evaporators.
You will conduct visual and audible examinations of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment, and by exploration of probably reasons for equipment failure.
You will repair HVAC systems and components in structures such as: warehouses, hangars, hospitals, large office buildings, and complexes, including those with areas that have special requirements.
You will test for refrigerant leaks and use a refrigerant recovery/recycling station to EPA standards to safely reclaim, recycle, and store the refrigerant before repairs can be made.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to maintain a current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 certification (Universal) from an EPA approved certifying program.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain current Confined Space Safety, Backflow Prevention, and Refrigerant Recovery certifications.
- You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. Applicants must possess a Universal EPA Refrigerant Certification (includes completion of 608 cert exam) issued by the Environmental Protection Agency. A copy of this certification must be attached to the application package to be considered for the position.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirement emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Maintaining, installing, troubleshooting and repairing a wide variety of air conditioning and refrigeration systems; 2) Performing installations, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs to commercial and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems that provide a variety of functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, circulating and filtering; 3) Demonstrating knowledge of the principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration as they relate to the refrigeration cycle, heat transfer laws, and the use of refrigerant tables. He/she must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical instructions; 4) Maintaining the efficiency, reliability, and safety of operation of systems by checking performance, diagnosing problems, and making necessary repairs and adjustments; and 5) Selecting the proper materials, tools, and techniques to complete work in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with applicable standards.
