The primary purpose of this position, Student Trainee ( Inventory Management) GS-2099-04 potential 05 is to provide a student trainee who has been appointed to an Air Force approved training program with on-the-job training and guidance to further student technical development.

Duties

Perform selected tasks and phases of routine studies and projects that require application of basic occupational field theory and principles in the technical area of inventory management. Attend training classes and activities as directed. Participate with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects. Provide assistance in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives. Attend meetings to observe interactions and understand working relationships with customers, specialists, and other organizational points of contact.

Requirements

  • Must meet suitability requirements for Federal employment
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying accredited institution
  • Must sign a Participant Agreement
  • U.S. citizen or national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island)
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal and Regulatory Guidance
  • You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an approved program
  • Pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree (Junior/Senior only), Graduate or Professional Degree
  • Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate)
  • Have a good academic standing (no less than 2.95 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale)
  • Meet the qualification standards of the position
  • Non-citizens may be eligible for employment if Permitted by the DoD Appropriation Act
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices and meeting rooms.
  • May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties.

Qualifications

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity; this position may be filled at the GS-04 or GS-05 grade level depending on applicant qualifications and organizational requirements. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Pathways Internship Programs, and Air Force Qualification Standard for Schedule D, Pathways Student Position. You must submit copies of your transcripts with your application. To qualify for GS-04: Applicant must have completed 2 academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree in a related field of study. To qualify for GS-05: Applicant must have completed a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree or completed 4 academic years of pre-professional study. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices in the technical area of inventory management. 2. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform student trainee assignments. 3. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format. 4. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions. 5. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify for a GS-04: Completion of 2 academic years of post high school study or an associate's degree in a related field of study

To qualify for a GS-05: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or completion of 4 academic years of pre-professional study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
