About the position: This position will be assigned to the Hillberg Ski Area on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. This is a Flexible position not to exceed May 15, 2024. Flexible employees have work schedules that depend on the needs of the activity. You may work a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 40 hours per week. You may be subjected to "on call" work in addition to hours posted on the schedule. A recruitment incentive may be authorized.

Duties

Assist in operating snowmaking equipment for creating manufactured snow from water resources to produce quality snow through the use of air, water, and fan equipment. Position snow guns and hoses appropriately on the mountain - adjusting, turning, or moving of snow guns as directed. Assists in the placement of all safety, barriers, padding, and guards around snowmaking equipment. Sustain the safe and continuous operation of the lifts for extended periods of time. Operate a variety of vehicles, equipment, machinery and tools ranging from snow cats, electric snowmaking machines, chairlift, rope tow, pick-up truck with snowplow, snowmobiles, high pressure air/water pumps, air compressors, aftercoolers and miscellaneous power tools to facilitate the snowmaking process or recreational activities. Operate high voltage equipment and high pressure air and water systems utilizing appropriate safety precautions. Assists with conducting routine inspection and minor maintenance checks on ski lodge vehicles, snowmaking equipment, as well as camping equipment, hand tools, small gas/electric motors and machinery and camper site water/electric systems. Maintenance may include oil changes, battery checks, and condition of brakes, filling tanks with gasoline, checking fluid levels, hoses, and filters, changing fan belts, and replacing lights. Assists with the upkeep of equipment to make sure things are in good mechanical and safe operating condition. Document and report mechanical/safety issues. Maintain load and unload ramps in areas around lift stations in various weather conditions including shoveling and/or raking snow, remove snow around snowmaking equipment and other areas around the resort as needed. Ensure the goals of snow plan are being met. Assist with regular operations and report any issues that may arise to Team Lead or Shift Supervisor. Monitor the snowmaking system on a continuous basis for water consumption and availability in relation to usable pumps, air consumption and availability, to ensure that snowmaking is carried out at top capacity. Assist skiers in loading and off-loading of the chair lift in a safe and proper manner. Ensures safety of patrons (i.e., proper clothing, equipment, etc.) and is alert at all times for unsafe conditions, mechanical malfunctions and possible injury to skiers through their own negligence. Answers a variety of questions from patrons on ski operations. Advises lift supervisor of any condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of the operation. Follows procedures as defined in the SOP for lift operations. Assist with physical support to the Ski Patrol Staff in the event of severe injury to patrons or staff. Reports inappropriate behavior or accidents to the Ski Patrol or Facility Coordinator. Keep area of responsibility, to include the ski lodge, in a high state of cleanliness both inside and outside. Clears snow from customer traffic areas. Organize the maze to provide orderly and friendly access to the lift; help to manage guests for efficient loading. Check tickets to ensure guests are utilizing the appropriate locations of the ski resort. Perform a variety of maintenance work at the Otter Lake Recreational Area: clears brush and debris, mows grass, establishes and maintains hiking trails. Cleans bathhouses, latrines, cabins and trailers. Makes repairs to boats, tables, grills, life preservers and other equipment owned by Otter Lake. May occasionally assist with repairing roads and parking/storage lots; breaking up pavement with a jackhammer, mixes and pour concrete, asphalt and hot mix, fills and level holes, or use motorized paint sprayer to line RV storage lot. Provide superior service to customers (internal and external) at all times. Follow the Resort Etiquette Guidelines while interacting with the guess and responds to all guests in a courteous, efficient manner. Provides assistance to patrons by answering questions about facilities, giving directional information, setting up camping/party/playground areas and equipment, explaining rules and regulations etc. Enforces safety, hygiene and health standards, policies, and regulations. Load, unload, or relocate heavy or bulky equipment including but not limited to: 10-place kayak trailers, rafting/ATV trailers, etc. Assists in setting-up, maintenance and takedown of all special planned programs/events. Sets up and maintains recreation equipment such as water sprinklers, picnic tables, barbecue grills, park benches, playground equipment, etc. Performs routine repairs and maintenance on park equipment such as painting replacing hardware, boards, etc. Assist other personnel in the completion of other in-house maintenance/construction projects for the park. Perform other duties as assigned while awaiting optimum snowmaking weather. Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience: Must have the ability to operate, control, and maintain snowmaking equipment and heavy powered machinery. Knowledge and experience in the ski industry is desired. Must have the ability to assist in determining the need for repair and servicing of snowmaking equipment. Requires basic knowledge and skill in the use of tools of the trade. Must be able to lift, bend, and work in awkward positions both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier with assistance. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

Education
