About the position: This position will be assigned to the Hillberg Ski Area and Moose Run Golf Course on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK.
Regular full-Time employees have a regular and continuous work schedule of at least 35 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Duties
1. Assist in operating snow-making equipment for creating manufactured snow from water resources to produce quality snow using air, water, and fan equipment. Position snow guns and hoses appropriately on the mountain - adjusting, turning, or moving of snow guns as directed. Assists in the placement of all safety, barriers, padding, and guards around snow-making equipment. Sustain the safe and continuous operation of the lifts for extended periods of time.
2. May be required to operate a variety of vehicles, equipment, machinery and tools ranging from snow cats, electric snow-making machines, chairlift, rope tow, pick-up truck with snowplow, snowmobiles, high pressure air/water pumps, air compressors, after Coolers and miscellaneous power tools to facilitate the snowmaking process or recreational activities. Operate high voltage equipment and high-pressure air and water systems utilizing appropriate safety precautions.
3. Assists with conducting routine inspection and minor maintenance checks on ski lodge vehicles, snow-making equipment, hand tools, small gas/electric motors and machinery and any water/electric systems. Maintenance may include oil changes, battery checks, and condition of brakes, filling tanks with gasoline, checking fluid levels, hoses, and filters, changing fan belts, and replacing lights. Assists with the upkeep of equipment to make sure things are in good mechanical and safe operating condition. Document and report mechanical/safety issues.
4. Maintain load and unload ramps in areas around lift stations in various weather conditions including shoveling and/or raking snow, remove snow around snow-making equipment and other areas around the resort as needed. Ensure the goals of snow plan are being met. Assist with regular operations and report any issues that may arise to Team Lead or Shift Supervisor. Monitor the snow-making system on a continuous basis for water consumption and availability in relation to usable pumps, air consumption and availability, to ensure that snowmaking is carried out at top capacity.
5. Assist skiers in loading and off-loading of the chair lift in a safe and proper manner. Ensures safety of patrons (i.e., proper clothing, equipment, etc.) and is always alert for unsafe conditions, mechanical malfunctions and possible injury to skiers through their own negligence. Answers a variety of questions from patrons on ski operations. Advises lift supervisor of any condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of the operation. Follows procedures as defined in the SOP for lift operations.
6. Assist with physical support to the Ski Patrol Staff in the event of severe injury to patrons or staff. Reports inappropriate behavior or accidents to the Ski Patrol or Facility Coordinator.
7. Keep area of responsibility, to include the ski lodge, in a high state of cleanliness both inside and outside. Clears snow from customer traffic areas. Organize the maze to provide orderly and friendly access to the lift; help to manage guests for efficient loading. Check tickets to ensure guests are utilizing the appropriate locations of the ski resort.
8. Operate vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds to various locations both on and off base in a variety of weather conditions. Conduct assigned tasks and will operate assigned equipment and vehicles in a safe manner.
9. Perform other duties as assigned while awaiting optimum snow-making weather.
10. The incumbent performs significant labor involved with golf course grounds maintenance. Operates heavy, complex riding lawn mowers and similar types of specialized mowing equipment (e.g., multiple and independently controlled cutting decks, single function components) and/or specially designed riding mowers that operate on slopes and require constant attention to working space and environment. Operates various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage, and disengage components or attached devices when working around: trees, greens, aprons, tees, fence lines, banks and hillsides, cart paths, sand bunkers, tee markers and cups on greens, trenches, slopes, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles.
11. Determines and selects the most appropriate type of equipment to accomplish each phase of the work in the most productive and cost-effective manner. Completes all aspects of special assignments involving several steps, phases or detailed procedures (e.g., preparing ground, laying sod, planting flowers or shrubs and using simple drawings to establish a planting pattern and/or design). The laborer installs forms and lays walks and paths using gravel and asphalt mixes; excavates and backfills ditches and trenches with hand tools; repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems; and may be asked to operate mowers, dump trucks or other equipment.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical to include a hearing test.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Qualifying Experience:
Requires basic knowledge and skill in the use of tools of the trade. Must be able to lift, bend, and work in awkward positions both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier with assistance.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
