About the Position: The Lead Police Officer responds to and investigates emergency calls, complaints, and other calls for service.

Duties
Serves as a Lead Police Officer assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations. Perform police officer duties enforce laws and render assistance.
Responds to and investigate emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.
Instructs employees in specific job tasks, techniques and training.
Leads personnel engaged in law enforcement duties for the installation. Distribute shift work assignments to be performed by employees.
Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
Operates motor vehicle which may involve high speed pursuit of suspects.
Conducts investigative stops, questions, detains, and issues traffic citations as required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- Position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- This position requires successfully passing training, certifications and qualifications requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations, or statutes.
- Successfully passing a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation; Passing a Physical Agility Test within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter. Complying with and maintaining the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program.
- This position is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Federal law requires removal of a federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies after the law took effect on January 20, 2001.
- Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.

Minimum Qualifications:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:
Maintaining law and order and protecting life and property through basic laws, regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
