This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Academy, Cadet Division, New London, CT.
Duties
In this position as a Maintenance Scheduler, you will serve along with other support personnel and provide the overall maintenance schedule, fleet readiness, preventive maintenance on a variety of sailing vessels services ranging from 12' to 30'. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:- Assisting with instructing, training and coaching cadets in sailing, racing and competition including the Swab Summer Sail Training Program, the Coastal Sail Training Program, Ocean Racing and the Sailing Team. - Preparing winter maintenance plan for the Academy's small boat fleet to include, repairs, improvements, cleaning (buffing), sanding, polishing, waxing and painting. - Insuring that all floats, piers, pilings, fenders and dock lines are serviceable.- Assisting offshore coach with delivery/transit of vessels to and from Academy for competition, sail training, winter storage and any out-sourced work.- Coordinating handling, storage and disposal of all hazardous material in accordance with academy, state and federal regulations. In addition, ensure the workplace meets all OSHA specifications..

Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.- Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT- Knowledge of Equipment Assembly and Installation.- Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).- Use of Measuring Instruments.- Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)- Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.- Knowledge of MaterialsNational Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
