THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (CIVIL), Position Description Number T5158000 and is part of the CO 140 CES, National Guard. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical expertise in preparing engineering plans, specifications and cost estimates. Additionally, the incumbent of this position will conduct preliminary, intermediate and final contractual inspections.

Duties

Reviews engineering plans and specifications for compliance with federal and state regulations, and ensures that design formats comply with applicable guidance. Develops and produces engineering specifications and cost estimates using specification guides, engineering handbooks, building construction cost data, manufacturers publications, engineering standards for types of materials, fire and safety codes, and other published material. Prepares modification/alteration design specifications considering existing structures, utilities, facilities and other considerations of projects that are not readily apparent. Conducts construction inspections to ensure contractor compliance with engineering plans, specifications, contractual obligations, and governing laws and regulations. Assists in the development of GIS data of real property for facility validations, designs, and current projects as needed. Develops and ensures the facility (vertical and horizontal structures) are updated and validated with base maps and current needs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

Experience working with or knowledge of engineering plans and specifications for compliance with federal and state regulations. 2. Experience working with or knowledge of electrical distribution systems for buildings, facilities, and airfields. 3. Experience working with or knowledge of mechanical utility systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems. 4. Experience working with or knowledge of the alteration, rehabilitation and modernization of buildings, structures, roads, streets, airfields and appurtenances, power and pumping plants. 5. Experience working with or knowledge of the construction planning process and the ability to find data, check existing facilities and utilities, and to conceptualize the scope of a project. 6. Experience working with or knowledge to operate the Computer Aided Design (CAD) computer and GIS programs to assist in coordination several different but related Military Construction Program (MCP) projects. 7. Experience working with or knowledge preparing modification/alteration design specifications considering existing structures, utilities, facilities and other considerations of projects that are not readily apparent. 8. Experience working with or knowledge of engineering methods, techniques, architecture, and historical project data to ensure project requirements are complete.

Education

Education cannot be substituted for Specialized Experience for this position.
