You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN HELPER in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, PIPE SHOP at the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will assist the journeyman in selecting and preparing the material and equipment to be used on each work operation. You will assist the journeyman in installation, construction, assembly, disassembly, and checking of motors, electrical panels, switches, wires, and conduit. You will assist journeyman in ensuring materials are in proper areas and delivering items to shop work stations.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to utilize tools of the trade, such as magnetic controls, switching devices, rectifiers, motor brushes, volt meters, ammeters, megohmeters, multimeters, and tachometers; Ability to use hand and power tools such as screw drivers, wire strippers, soldering irons, drills, pipe benders and threaders; Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions to accomplish assigned work.
