Duties

You will perform operator maintenance on trucks with approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds. You will be responsible for the daily submission of time and leave reports, daily work progress, ensuring work request responsiveness, resolving technical and employee relationship problems, initiating commendations and disciplinary actions. You will dispatch vehicles using a computerized communication system based on authority, priority and propriety of dispatching requests. You will be responsible for balancing work, work force and scheduling employee leave to ensure that operations are not unfavorably impacted. You will ensure work is checked and evaluated for timeliness, the safe delivery of cargo or passengers and for following customer instructions. You will be responsible for operating oversized vehicle (motor coach) on extended trips where a variety of driving situations may be encountered, including congested locations, difficult metropolitan traffic, and high-speed highways. You will have full custody of the motor coach throughout the trip and is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, arranging for towing and unexpected repairs and making parking or storage arrangements. You will be responsible for the safe transport of cargo or the comfort of passengers on extended trips.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including 1) Driving passenger buses, motor coaches and/or tractor trailers; 2) Applying knowledge of regulations, directives, instructions and procedures for the operation of shuttle bus services, unscheduled bus and cargo operations; and 3) Writing reports, report tracking, and following up on submissions. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Federal Wage System Qualifications (opm.gov) Physical Demands The incumbent exerts moderate to heavy physical effort in making couplings between the vehicle and towed equipment because safety chains, tow-boards and hooks must be lifted and properly secured; operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavier loads or larger numbers of people; climbing on tractors to hook up service lines, lower landing gears and climbing on the trailer to load or tie down cargo. Working Conditions The incumbent works mostly outside and operates vehicles in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment throughout a government installation or establishment; in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Incumbent is exposed to dirt and fumes, cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle. The incumbent must pass an annual physical to meet the requirements of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
