The primary purpose of this position is to deliver safe patient care as well as administrative support to the above specialty service. The Health Technician works under the direction of the Dermatology staff physicians and reports to the Chief of Dermatology.
Duties
Assist physicians with dermatologic procedures including but not limited to: skin biopsies, skin excisions, photodynamic therapy, phlebotomy, vitals, including timeouts, inpatient consults and end of day biopsies verification.
Assist physician with wound care and follow-up evaluations post procedures.
Responsible for the acquisition and archiving of skin photographs through the VA Staff Capture of My VA Images.
Assist physician with virtual encounters including connectivity for visits and the My VA Images program.
Medical clerical operations related to the practice, including but not limited to secure message replies, inform the provider about the need for medication refills, verify laboratory data, review pathology reports and notify patients by phone or letter.
Oversee the clinic schedule including keeping a calendar of Physicians and Physician Assistants.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/13/2023.
English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English/Spanish in order to meet the requirements of this position.
Individual Occupational Requirements: Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Specialized experience: Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Conducts medical clerical operations related to the practice, including but not limited to secure message replies, inform the provider about the need for medication refills, verify laboratory data, review pathology reports and notify patients by phone or letter. Coordinates with physician and nursing the ordering of injectables or other similar substances as well as other supplies on the day of the procedure and coordinate with pharmacy to ensure delivery to clinic prior to the patient's appointments.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, push a stretcher or wheelchair.
