About the Position: This is a permanent position.
Serves as a Human Resources Assistant in the Sacramento Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). The mission of USMEPCOM and the Sacramento MEPS is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on DoD-approved peacetime and mobilization standards.
Duties
You will provide administrative support to the Reception-Administration Control Desk, Record Maintenance and Accountability, and Enlistment Processing.
You will greet and account for visitors/applicants in and out of the MEPS; muster applicants for processing and enlistment ceremonies, and administer pre-oath briefings.
You will obtain information, review and process entrance documents from personnel enlisting/re-enlisting into the military service.
You will question applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final data processing of forms and records for entry into the military service.
You will gather information which would bear on moral or physical suitability for enlistment.
You will fingerprint applicants using automated systems, ensuring fingerprints are acceptable.
You will verify applicants' Emergency Data Records. You will note and correct any discrepancies when differences occur. You will use automated equipment to complete tasks such as creating correspondence, reports and maintaining records.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Routinely be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
- Employee may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work.
- Requires the ability to utilize web-based software systems.
- Required to take and complete the Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training successfully within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required to access the MHS GENESIS System.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes screening applicants; questioning applicants to verify information; reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness; maintaining records; and data entry. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
PROFIENCY REQUIREMENT: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).

Education
