This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties

The Senior Social Worker performs a wide range of administrative and clinical functions on the unit or program assigned during and extended staff vacancy. These functions include:
Assists Supervisor or Program Manager roll out new initiatives/policies.
Leads system redesign and LEAN projects.
Completes all mandated reporting, monitoring and accreditation requirements relevant to that program.
Managing the schedule for consults and screenings across disciplines and ensures work is completed within program guidelines.
Participates in the orientation, training, and teaching of social work graduate students and other trainees and staff.
May serve on committees, work groups, and task forces at the facility, VISN, and/or VA Central Office levels.
Provides full range of therapeutic interventions including: individual therapy, group therapy, and psychodiagnostics evaluations as program needs dictate.
Conducts intake screening interviews to assess eligibility for admission to program.
The Senior Worker will address home care needs, homelessness, and transition across levels and sites of care.
Advanced Social Work care management practice skills, which includes psychosocial assessment, diagnosis, and treatment which is focused on helping Veterans and their families maximize treatment potential and achieve more satisfying and productive emotional and social functioning.
Provides social work psychosocial assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members to develop a care management plan and psychosocial interventions.
Performs specialized treatment for complex mental health needs and is able to assess, utilize differential diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment modalities of individual, group, marital and family therapy services.
Develops crisis management plans for in-patient psychiatric admissions or appropriate safety plans for deflections.
Provides case management and supportive services to families as indicated.
Must be sensitive to the ethnic and cultural diversity and age-specific challenges of the Veteran population served and adjusts intervention and treatment plans as appropriate.
Networks with and utilizes appropriate community resources.
Serves as an advocate for Veterans and their families, helping them access needed services at the facility, at other VA facilities, and in their local communities.
Travel to other locations may be required as part of providing social work care management services. Such travel requires the Senior Worker to function without immediate supervision or consultation.
Provides in-services to other CBOC staff in the areas of mental health and improving care management procedures.
Is responsible for furthering own professional growth through education, appropriate to area of assignment, and providing coverage during social worker absences.
Must maintain a level of productivity and quality consistent with facility, program and Social Work standards and the complexity of the assignment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
Education: Must have a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
Licensure: Must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level at the GS-12 grade level. This includes an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (PROVIDE COPY)
IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING GS-12 GRADE REQUIREMENTS:GS-12 Grade level:
EXPERIENCE: must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice.

Applicants must also meet the Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below:
Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management.
Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.
Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes.
Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills.
Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Physical demands do not exceed those of a typical office setting. There may be some walking, standing, twisting, turning, sitting, pushing, bending, repetitive keyboarding, or carrying of light items.
