Duties
Analyze, evaluate, and assess appropriate quantitative and qualitative data (using statistical software, computer models, geospatial models, or software languages) to contribute to or produce analytic reports or actionable intelligence in response to customer requirements.
Analyze, evaluate, and recommend the wide range of analytical tools that add value, rigor, and precision to the identification of current and potential intelligence issues and collection strategies; lead or manage the collection and preparation of data in order to build data sets for databases and effectively direct the use of SQL, Python, Java, and similar programming languages for modeling, simulation, visualization, and analysis.
Maintain positive customer relationships in order to gather input and feedback for addressing analytical issues; provide effective briefings to senior internal and external customers on the analytical content of complex intelligence products and the development of future analytical tools and methodologies.
Support reporting and analytics functions by understanding the content, format, data definitions, and appropriate usage of institutional data and applying that knowledge to meet the information needs of university leadership, administrators, and other NIU stakeholders.
Identify, collect, analyze, and report student, employee, and other data; builds and maintains university dashboards and other self-service institutional data tools in support of external reporting requirements and internal planning, analysis, and decision-making needs.
Provide analysis and interpretation of the data; promotes integrity, accuracy, and consistency of data and data-products; reports and communicates information effectively to a variety of constituents.
The ideal candidate should have experience in the phases of enterprise data life-cycles in higher education, including data acquisition, cleaning, and processing, data documentation, validation, and analysis to include visualization and user support.
Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to represent the office and management on sensitive, controversial, or difficult analytical issues and interpretations; superior ability to clearly present information through the spoken or written word, interpret complex, technical information, and communicate effectively with customers.
Demonstrated understand information needs and able to propose projects/solutions to meet these needs; able to conduct data validation and quality reviews of existing reports, dashboards, and other institutional datasets.
Demonstrated ability to work with other professionals, project teams, and external partners to identify and document requirements for new analytical products, as well as enhancements to existing reports.
Demonstrated ability to develop/automate processes for managing, maintaining, and producing data and analytical products as well as maintaining NIU dashboards including visualization.
Able to effectively collaborate with internal/external data owners to create, refine, and maintain documentation of official IR datasets and reports that meets the established reporting standards by IPEDS/MSCHE
Able to develop detailed instructions or training materials in support of institutional knowledge transfer.
Master's Degree in technology or data analytics and 5 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's Degree in computer programming, data/social sciences, education or related field of study with 7 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experiences.
Desired Requirements:
Knowledge of properly using a major statistical program such as SPSS.
Knowledge of survey research and/or experience using survey software such as Lime Survey.
Extensive knowledge/experience working in a higher education setting.
Understand the needs of the management a typical university community.
