This position is located at Shiprock Service Unit, Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), Division of Nursing Services, Pediatric Outpatient Branch, Shiprock, New Mexico.
The purpose of this position is directly responsible for supervising, managing, directing, coordinating, providing leadership, and evaluating the provision of nursing care provided in the Pediatric Outpatient Department. Incumbent reports to the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) and/or Assistant Chief Nurse Executive (ACNE).
Duties
Functions as the Supervisory Nurse with responsibility for nursing services and nursing care on the Pediatrics Outpatient Department. Includes compliance with standards of care, patient safety, and compliance with other applicable standards. This plan includes a complete staffing plan, which is evaluated and revisions made as necessary. Plans the work for the unit; work schedules; ensures adequate nursing coverage for safe and effective patient care.
Evaluates daily operations and services provided to assure efficient use of resources, including patient flow/process, work flow/process, productivity, and take appropriate corrective and evaluation action as needed. Prepares workload and production reports. Provides supervision to subordinate employees, including counseling, disciplinary action, corrective action, evaluation, and overall management of each unit employee. Assures orientation, training and development of each employee. Monitors, evaluates, and corrects employee performance. Conducts monthly meetings with unit staff. Participates in the hiring process.
Effectively coordinates and supervises services to ensure delivery of quality patient care within the allocated areas of responsibility. Ensure policies and procedures, national nursing standards, The Joint Commission, federal guidelines and appropriate protocols are followed. Utilizes the Unified Financial Management System (UFMS) for ordering supplies and equipment, and for contract nursing.
Performs the full range of patient care duties and assesses medical legal implication for performing practice and activities related to age-appropriate care.

Education:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure:
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Comprehensive professional nursing care in preventive and therapeutic services to all age groups that includes assessment, diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses, formulate and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests, educate and counsel patients, and collaborate with physicians concerning patient care and management. Experience managing, directing, coordinating and providing leadership to Nursing staff.
SUPERVISORY OR MANAGERIAL COMPETENCIES: Candidates should possess proficiency or the potential to develop proficiency in these competencies prior to entry into a supervisory position.
