This employee serves the Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station. This Supervisory Program Specialist for Science Application and Communication coordinates and integrates applied science and science communication research actions, programs, and plans that support the Station's mission. Duties

Provides leadership in the formulation and establishment of long-range Station research policies plans and projects focused on the co-production of science, knowledge exchange, applied science, and science communication. Develops programs to communicate and market the Station's science with stakeholders and ensure effective science delivery. Promotes application of research findings by facilitating relationships across stations and the agency, and key administrators in federal, State, local, and other organizations. Advocates for funding and partnerships within the Station and from outside sources. Provides technical and administrative supervision to employees in a variety of professional and non-professional occupations (25% or more of the time). Directs quality assurance and quality control for science communication and science delivery activities

Requirements

  • Obtain and use a government-issued charge card for business- related travel.
  • Subject to 1-year supervisory probationary period (unless prior service is creditable). Must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probationary period.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards. Specialized Experience Requirements: GS-15: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in federal service. To qualify, your experience must include the following and be supported in your resume. --Building innovative programs to integrate science into policy and decision-making including creating key relationship networks and translating and synthesizing science for a variety of audiences. --Directing a wide variety of communication and marketing strategies and methods to achieve science communication and delivery outcomes (may include traditional, digital and social media, technical writing and legislative liaison work). --Managing regional or national programs in communications, legislative affairs or natural resource management. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Education

Graduate level education alone is not qualifying for this grade level. You must possess the required specialized experience.
