The employee will serve as the Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist at the Tomah VA Medical Center, in Tomah, WI. The employee supervises multiple supply series of consumable medical supply/inventory used in the healthcare system as well as the micro-purchase program.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Plans, directs and manages the activities of the Commodity Management Section, to include inventory management, supply management, receiving, purchasing, distribution, control of facility, pandemic, environmental supplies, office supplies, non-OIT consignment and prosthetics consumables, equipment instrumentation and applicable services. Oversees the inventory management, control and distribution of expendable inventory for the medical center and supported catchment area. Establishes procedures and oversees and reviews physical inventories and supply reconciliation. Establishes reporting techniques to foresee any potential problems in supply control. Analyzes, studies, develops, and directs systems in connection with the expendable requirements in the medical center's annual budget development and strategic planning. Implements best practices, principles, tools and concepts to evaluate and improve supply system performance. Plans and directs the consumable management program, to include supply management accountability, maintaining a quantitative and monetary accountability for all consumable supplies and purchases from government agencies. Has oversight and accountability of the management plan for the commodity program. Ensures performance measures are met on a monthly basis. Ensures that subordinates independently manage inventory, set initial stock and par levels and reorder points and resolve issues for a complete medical or service category (i.e., surgical, dental, imaging, engineering, prosthetics, laboratory or other major commodity). Identifies opportunities for and directs analysis of potential cost savings, efficiencies and process improvements using quantitative analysis and historical usage patterns. Resolves complex inventory problems that could not be resolved by subordinates. Performs other duties as assigned. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service. This experience must have equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes: planning, coordinating and executing an inventory and materials management program; directing and overseeing the lifecycle management of individual assets; conducting data/information analysis for acquisition planning; managing and controlling non-expendable equipment and assets; and exercising supervisory responsibilities to include planning, assigning and evaluating work and resolving complaints. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) - Applicants must possess 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or LL.M, if related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) - Possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (in excess of the first year or 18 semester hours) and specialized experience to meet total experience requirements. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary and is usually accomplished while seated at a desk or table, typically in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office. Some standing, walking, bending and lifting (up to 40 lbs.) is required. Physical exertions including stretching, reaching and pulling or pushing cares occurs when assisting with inventories or activities involving retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.
