This vacancy is for a Economist position in the Bureau of Economic Analysis. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Economist, ZP-0110-2, FPL ZP-3 positions within the Bureau of Economic Analysis in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Duties

In this position, you will serve as an Economist. Typical work assignments include: Identify data discrepancies or irregularities to improve the quality of estimates. Collaborate with others on joint or team projects to meet strict deadlines. Communicate verbally and in writing to analyze/explain economic data, methods, or topics.

To qualify for this position, you must meet following Recent Graduate Eligibility and Minimum Qualifications Requirement for ZP-2 (GS-07) level. Basic Entry Requirements for All Grade Levels: You must be a Recent College Graduate from qualifying institutions within two years of degree or certification (Veterans precluded by their military service obligation, will have up to six years to apply). Graduation/expected graduation date MUST be indicated on your resume. In addition to qualifying as a Pathways Recent Graduate, you must also meet the following requirements: Basic Requirement: A. Successful completion of a degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR B. Combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications Requirement: You qualify for the ZP-2 (GS-07) if you possess one of the following: A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the ZP-1 pay band or GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Reviewing data trends to advise on economic matters; Utilizing software programs to complete statistical analysis; and Evaluating economic information to prepare reports. (Note: Your resume must demonstrate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.) B. Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, AND meet one of the following provisions of Superior Academic Achievement: 1) Maintained a grade-point average of "B" (a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; 2) Maintained a grade-point average "B+" (a GPA of 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; 3) Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision based on completed courses; 4) Be a member of a national honor (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Please submit a college transcript(s) showing your grade point average for all four years of undergraduate study, including all transferred courses. NOTE: GPA's are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9. If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail or similar basis, your claim must be based on class standing or membership in an honor society. OR C. Have one full year of graduate level study, in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. NOTE: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study. OR D. Have a combination of some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and have some graduate education but less than one year of education as described in C. However, you have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that when combined, equals at least 100% of the total requirement. Pathways Recent Graduate Eligibility - This announcement is being opened under the Pathways Program - Recent Graduates option. The Pathways Program offers opportunities to grow in your career through formal training and mentorship while earning valuable real-world experience. While the Pathways appointment is one year in length, individuals who successfully complete the program can be converted into either a time-limited or permanent position in the competitive service, provided that there is an available position. Recent Graduates converted to term appointments may later be non-competitively converted to a permanent competitive service position. Placement in the program does not guarantee conversion to a permanent appointment, nor is it mandatory. To qualify under Recent Graduates, you must have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associate, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. If you are a veteran who could not apply within two years due to military service obligations, you can qualify for this program up to six years after the completion of your qualifying education. Students may apply up to nine months prior to completing their academic requirements. NOTE: Qualifying educational institution means: (1) A public high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, a private high school that provides secondary education as determined under State law, or a homeschool that is allowed to operate in a State; and (2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education: (i) A technical or vocational school; (ii) A 2-year or 4-year college or university; (iii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or (iv) A post-secondary home school curriculum order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
