The position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Rocky Mountain VA Medical Center (RMR VAMC) in the Mental Health Service. The primary purpose of the Training Technician (OA) is to act as the administrative coordinator for the APA (American Psychological Association) accredited psychology internship, psychology fellowship, psychology, practicum, medical students and the psychiatry residency and fellowship programs in Aurora, CO.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major Duties: Provides administrative coordination of a medical internship, residency, and/or practicum training programs. Maintains regular contact with the administration/staff at the facility, and the various program coordinators at regional affiliates. Responsible for yearly resident credentialing working directly with the University. Interprets and applies regulations and procedures concerning residency/training programs. Collects, reviews, and screens all applications and supporting documentation for trainee programs based on Program Directors' guidelines. Assists program directors and Section Chiefs in the development of trainee recruitment strategies. Coordinates and attends program development and review meetings with regional affiliates and regional training sites as directed by the respective training program directors. Provides documentation of minutes and outcomes for respective program coordinators. Handles all correspondence from candidates and trainee applicants. Maintains applicant files, assists in ranking, and prepares rank order lists for submission to the National Psychology Internship and fellowship Match Program (Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers; APPIC). Collects, researches, and analyzes data for the preparation of reports required by the psychology internship, fellowship, practicum, and psychiatry residency programs. Identifies problems and makes recommendations in administrative coordination of training programs and recommends alternative courses of action to ensure efficiency, economy, and balance in the operation of the training programs. Coordinates the scheduling and logistics for multiple committees. Independently composes and prepares correspondence and reports. Prepares and submits necessary paperwork for without compensation (WOC) appointments of residents/students/fellows and any associated requests for housing as necessary. Maintains automated system of program-specific data to track items such as performance tracking of residents and student's attendance, clinical documentation, and required education activities. Works with various internal and external stakeholders to secure continuing education units (CEUs) for various disciplines attending the Grand Rounds. Orders supplies and maintains fund control data for psychology and MHS training fund control points. Ensures reconciliations are done in a timely fashion. Performs other duties as assigned. English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. -AND- TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. -AND- To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicant(s) must meet the following: Specialized Experience: Requires at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal service that includes experience performing program support work to include scheduling appointments, developing correspondence, processing documents and reports, obtaining supplies or equipment; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information. To qualify at the GS-07 level, applicant(s) must meet the following: Specialized Experience: Requires at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) in the Federal service that includes experience performing program support work to include scheduling appointments, developing correspondence, processing documents and reports, obtaining supplies or equipment; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information; providing support for a training program. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Administration and ManagementClericalProject ManagementSelf ManagementTechnical Competence IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying or pushing carts of light items such as papers, books, small parts or driving an automobile, etc. Periodic travel by vehicle or airplane to regional or national meetings, affiliates, conferences, or other required VHA activities is required. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Considerable time is spent at a computer.
