This position is located in Moose Pass, Alaska, on the Chugach National Forest and is responsible for a variety of complex and recurring technical duties individually or as a crew member or leader, in support of unit resource management. Positions filled will be full-time seasonal with 18 pay periods of guaranteed pay status and 8 pay periods of non-pay time. Duties

Duties described are at the full performance level, GS-07. Schedules, organizes, and executes field projects for detecting, identifying and evaluating natural resource problems, such, water, land, food, plants, animals, or soils. Collects samples, establishes tests and control plots, as necessary. Compiles and summarizes data obtained from aerial and ground surveys including natural resource monitoring, evaluations, and pilot tests conducted as part of the project. Takes photographs to record resource damage; runs computer programs to organize the data for analysis; conducts routine analyses; and provides the data to specialists. Supports the Forest’s subsistence fish and wildlife program. Gathers, compiles, and provides data for fishery, wildlife, aquatic and riparian resource databases used as a basis for recommendations to management. Conducts routine wildlife resource studies and wildlife habitat improvement projects. Serves on interdisciplinary teams and assists in the preparation of environmental analysis reports. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-06: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Analyzing natural resources information and preparing reports of findings with appropriate recommendations; Utilizing topographic maps, photographs, and data that identify a variety of natural resource areas and conditions; OR collecting samples and recording data such as numbers, measurements, weights, samples, and special notes, and making determinations, such as species identification, habitat condition, injury, disease. OR You have one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture). OR You must have a combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
