Duties

The National Park Service (NPS) is looking for temporary employees to work as Fire Logistics Dispatchers in Yellowstone, WY (Yellowstone NP). A Fire Logistics Dispatcher (GS-05) serves as a dispatcher, receiving, filling, and tracking resource order requests for fire and other emergency incidents. Collects, processes, collates and submits incident information to support intelligence activities. Inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications. Processes and interprets weather information. Records and maintains communication logs. A Fire Logistics Dispatcher (GS-06) is a dispatcher that serves as a central district coordination point with capability to assemble or obtain suppression resources including helicopters, retardant aircraft, firefighters, and fire overhead personnel. Provides input to be used in fire plans and recommends changes as appropriate. Interprets weather information and gives to management for making decisions. Inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications. A Fire Logistics Dispatcher (GS-07) performs and directs others in completing and processing resource order requests for personnel, equipment, supplies, and/or aircraft for all types of incidents. Provides assistance on problems encountered by lower level dispatch personnel. Coordinates with other dispatch organizations on mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of resources. Inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications. Records and maintains communication logs. Operates and/or directs the operation of various dispatch telecommunications systems. Provides technical guidance, orientation, and training to other dispatchers. Qualifications

Hours worked per week must be stated for each season and position held in your resume. ***Experience listed will need to include specific duties about the work being performed and should not be only the general language stated below in the examples. To qualify for a GS-05 You must meet at least one of the following: 1). One year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-04 level duties. Examples of specialized work experience include: Working with dispatch and dispatch office functions related to wildland fire suppression activities. Work should have included experience such as determining priorities and selecting alternative resources while performing dispatch operations duties independently. -OR- 2). A successful completion of a 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in any field. -OR- 3). A combination of the education and experience as described above. To qualify for a GS-06 You must have at least 1 year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-05 level duties. Examples of specialized work experience include: Working with dispatch and dispatch office functions related to wildland fire suppression activities. Work should have included processing resource orders, coordinating with other dispatch organizations on mobilization and determining the status of available resources. To qualify for a GS-07 You must have at least 1 year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-06 level duties. Examples of specialized work experience include: Lead dispatch experience and dispatch office functions related to wildland fire suppression activities. Physical Demands: The work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and working at peak proficiency/intensity levels with irregular breaks and mealtimes. Must be able to cope with the pressure of meeting timeframes and changing priorities. Mental concentration and accuracy are required. Vehicle and aircraft travel associated with field visits and other administrative travel may be required. Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in an office setting. During peak activity, increased radio traffic, numerous ringing phones, and conversations result in high noise levels, which require a high level of concentration to perform duties. The duties of this position create a highly stressful environment during peak activity, requiring the ability to keep calm in emergency situations.
