Duties
The applicant selected for the St. Louis Office will serve as a Victim Witness Assistant performing duties such as:
Providing information and assistance to victims that include crisis intervention resources, assistance in securing medical treatment for injuries, information on legal rights and resources available, emergency housing options, employment services and transportation assistance.
Coordinating with local, state and Federal law enforcement agencies to assist victims with the return of their property being held as evidence or to obtain copies of reports needed for securing services and assistance from other programs (e.g. Crime Victim Compensation).
Securing travel and lodging reservations for victims and witnesses at government rates, when needed.
Establishing and maintains working files consisting of correspondence and reports pertinent to
cases.
Producing a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a range of office software
application.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
Qualifications
To be qualified at the GS 08, you must have: at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07.
Specialized experience is defined as experience providing victim and witness assistance services such as: making or arranging direct contact with victims, witnesses, and official personnel to provide administrative support, referral, and comprehensive information regarding victim's rights, available options, community resources, and the legal system.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
