About the Position: This is a Medical Records Administration Specialist position located at the United States Air Force Academy.

Duties
Knowledge of current federal and state patient privacy laws.
Analyze the need for, and develop mechanism for the protection of health information (PHI).
Coordinate with healthcare providers to validate final recommendations of medical record amendments and expungements.
Perform audits of HIPAA compliance, identifying negative trends and report findings.
Plan, develop, maintain, or operate a variety of health record indexes or storage and retrieval systems.
Conduct, oversee, and monitor HIPAA Patient Privacy Training.
Respond in writing or orally to HIPAA complaints.
Ability to keep personnel updated on new and changing requirements.
Requirements

- Immunization screening is required.
- Appointment may require occasional business travel.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience administrating the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy program, to include the knowledge to develop, implement, and maintain HIPAA policies and procedures, investigate HIPAA complaints, and instruct external and internal customers in the proper procedures and regulations for the release of information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
