This position is located in Glacier National Park, in the Special Park Uses Permits office and serves to administer the issuance of various Special Use Permits (SUP). The position also performs duties related to the full range of permit programs including fee program assistance, permit monitoring, and the coordination of permit monitoring.

Duties

Open to the first 30 applicants or until 12/07/2023 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately 6 to 11 months, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Glacier National Park is January thru November but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The major duties of the Special Park Use Assistant position include, but are not limited to, the following: Administer Special Park Uses permits. Educate, interpret, and inform visitors about resources, conservation, laws, and regulations. Coordinate, track, plan, and facilitate entire permitting process for park visitors and staff, including the billing and payment process, and field monitoring for special use permit activities. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/07/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Reviewed and issued standardized Special Use Permit (SUP) applications; Assisted with the appropriate determination, management, and recovery of applicable permit costs and fees; Explained the terms and conditions of a permit to applicants and/or permittees; Verified completeness of permit packages and prepare permit paperwork for approval. You must include hours per week worked. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Reviewed and issued standardized and specialized special use permits; Developed and executed permits to within signature authority: Assisted with complex (multiple days, venues, equipment, etc.) and or/controversial permits; Tracked and managed the administrative record for Special Park Use program. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
