This position is located in Redwood National and State Parks, in the Natural Resource Management Division.
The typical seasonal period for Redwood National and State Parks is April but can be variable due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2024

Duties
Major Duties:
perform research and monitoring activities for wildlife and fisheries resources
safely capture and band/tag wildlife and/or fish
safely travel and orient in wilderness settings
accurately collect and record biological data in a field setting
analyze and report biological data for reports
operate and maintain resource management equipment in the field
hike and navigate in steep, dense forest environments with large down logs, thick riparian vegetation, biting insects, and large animals (e.g., elk, mountain lions) for prolonged periods (up to 10 hours per day for multiple days) carrying a backpack weighing up to 40 pounds
involves regular and recurring exposure to extreme weather conditions.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST when the applicant cut-off is reached (which may be sooner than 12/08/2023).
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to: conducting wildlife field surveys to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, and population dynamics; conducting biological aquatic surveys to obtain basic information for management of fish, amphibians, macroinvertebrates, and aquatic ecosystems; assisting researchers in wildlife surveys and monitoring activities; mapping wildlife locations using a Global Positioning Systems (GPS) unit; working with field crews to implement wildlife projects; and to assist in long-term monitoring projects by following established protocols to compile, store, analyze and report on wildlife data using a variety of computer programs. NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. (1) One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent (1) one year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Resume must indicate hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least (1) one full year of graduate study leading to a master's degree with major study in a directly related field such as biology, ecology, entomology, animal husbandry, mammalogy or zoology. IMPORTANT: If you are using education to qualify you must submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of college courses taken that identify each course, the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade received, and date completed. We cannot determine eligibility without this information.

COMBINATION: a combination of experience and education that total at least one year. Experience and education should be computed as percentage of the overall requirements and must equal 100 percent when combined. Both hours per week worked must be included in the resume and transcripts.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
