Employees in this Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical Nutrition) assignment are the expert in clinical nutrition and oversees a complex Clinical Nutrition Section which involves providing administrative and technical supervision of GS12 Dietitians and the oversight of the work of clinical dietitians at the GS-11 level and below.

Duties

The Supervisory Dietitian makes decisions based on intricate and unrelated information and assumptions from inconclusive or variable data in all aspects of nutrition operations. They are an essential part of the NFS executive leadership team. They provide professional and management support to the department and continuously strive to increase patient satisfaction and improve veteran experience. The Supervisory Dietitian is responsible for carrying out the strategic and business aspects of the Clinical Nutrition section. They support the NFS goals in alignment with the broader medical center mission and coordinate section activities with other services and units in the facility, clinics, and local community. The Supervisory Dietitian is responsible for ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory authorities. They ensure evidence-based guidelines are integrated into clinical practice and collaborate closely with the Supervisory Dietitian (Food Operations) to enhance the Veteran's dining experience and to support the strategic goals of the food operations section. Provides clinical nutrition section specific leadership serving as professional and technical advisor to staff and other health care professionals. Has oversight over HR staffing, employee relations and labor relations in Clinical Nutrition section. Exercises a full range of supervisory and personnel management authorities and assumes full responsibility in planning, directing, and assessing work of subordinate staff. Establishes a training plan for the clinical section that is based on evidence based nutrition. Develops and leads clinical nutrition operations. Establishes strategic goals and ensure priorities align with the strategic plan of the NFS department, VISN and national programs. Identify and prioritize problems, set long and short-term goals, develop action plans and analyze data to evaluate progress to improve outcomes. Responsible for developing and updating policies and procedures and establishing and overseeing a system for regulatory compliance. Solicit support and/or negotiate with facility managers to influence decision making and garner support to ensure clinical nutrition operations succeed. Collaborate closely with the food operations section to enhance the Veteran's dining experience and to support the strategic goals of the food service section and NFS. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm Telework: 1-2 Days/PP Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7407(a). Dietitian candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Non-credentialed Dietitians who meet the basic qualification requirements and have fulfilled the requirements below, but do not possess the RDN credential, may be given a temporary full-time appointment not to exceed one year under the authority of 38 U.S.C. § 7405(c)(2). Non-credentialed Dietitians must have fulfilled each of the following: A Earned a bachelor's or higher degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college, university or foreign equivalent (refer to ii below). B Completed an ACEND® accredited experiential or supervised practice program and provide a verification statement from the program director that conveys eligibility to take the CDR registration exam as a prospective RDN. A list of ACEND® accredited programs is located on the ACEND® website or at ACEND Accredited Programs Directory. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade of GS12. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: (a) Skill in written communication including policy development and standard operating procedures. (b) Skill in strategic planning to develop goals, objectives and action plans. (c) Skill in analyzing data to monitor progress towards improving and sustaining outcomes. (d) Ability to negotiate. (e) Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance). Current VHA Dietitians that qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted to a higher grade if they do not meet the current RDN/RD requirements. Grade Determinations: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. References: VA Handbook 5005 Part II Appendix G20 Physical Requirements: The work required does not inherently include any physical requirements essential for successful job performance that could not otherwise be performed with accommodation or workplace adjustment. A pre-placement physical examination is not required.
