About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Southwest Georgia Martin Army Community Hospital Uniform Business Office at Fort Moore, GA. The position is to lead a team consisting of Medical Insurance Technicians (Office Automation) to support the Third Party Collection Program (TPC) by working to meet production goals for revenue requirements each fiscal year. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Resolve irregularities or problems for financial reimbursement of claims from a wide variety of insurance companies. Analyze Accounts Receivable for assigned claims to determine status of claims errors or obstacles that could delay/prevent payment. Prepare and processes insurance billing documents for inpatient hospital claims using an automated billing system. Conduct pre-admission processing of all non-active-duty Uniformed Services beneficiaries scheduled for inpatient treatment or same day surgery. Assign work to be accomplished and instructs employee in work processes and procedures and provides technical assistance. Explain options, entitlements, billing procedures, benefits and rights to patients regarding the outpatient TPCP program to patients and their insurance companies. Explain and answer questions regarding the outpatient Third Party Collection Program (TPCP) to patients and their insurance companies. Perform duties as Lead Medical Insurance Technician, in the Outpatient Billing and Collection of the Third Party Collections Program, Uniform Business Office. Applies third party billing and accounting principles to define process requirements. Plan out work in accordance with general guidance, policies and regulations, utilizing a diverse range of responsibilities.

  • THIS IS A FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Level 1 Certified position designated as such in accordance with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2012, Public Law 112-81, Subtitle F-Financial Management, section 1599d.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Financial Management Level 1 Certification. Failure to obtain this certification within the required 2-year time may subject the incumbent to adverse action.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) receives and analyzes medical record data for outpatient files; 2) assists with the medical billings of insurance to third party agencies. 3) ensuring accurate billing, collecting, depositing, and reporting of earnings; 4) utilizing automated billing systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Accounting, or Budget Analysis. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
