About the Position: This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 months position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.

Duties

Independently receiving, storing, and warehousing one or more commodities or classes of supplies and equipment, and for selecting and processing items for issue or shipment. Receive supplies and equipment by loading and unloading trucks, vans, freight cars, etc. Moves items by hand or-utilizes material handling equipment, i.e., a hand cart, pallet jack, forklift or hand truck. Make deliveries, pick-ups, and or turn-in of excess materials, using vans or panel trucks. Establish and maintains accountability by verifying stock numbers, item descriptions, quantity, and the conditions of items being received or issued. Report damages or discrepancies to the supervisor immediately upon detection.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Forklift Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. Receive, unload and process incoming shipments of items arriving via various modes of transportation. Verify items to be shipped and issued are properly marked, tagged and properly packed in suitable containers. Ensure that stock is properly loaded and braced for shipment. Operate electric, gasoline, or diesel powered forklift trucks weighing up to 10,000 pounds and as high as 168 inches to load, unload, transfer, transport, stack, unstack pallets of goods, boxes, crates, merchandise, materials and supplies from one location to another. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Attention to DetailKnowledge of MaterialsPackaging, Handling, Storage & Transportation Physical Effort: Employees are often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work, in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. They may lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds. The heavier items are moved with MHE or with assistance from other workers. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside or outside, in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Material Handlers are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises,abrasions, falls, and injuries from falling stock. They may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease and solvents, and to high noise levels in mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, they may be subject to exposure from radiation toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work requires the wearing of protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, and masks.
