About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Housing Division, Unaccompanied Personnel Housing Branch at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Duties

Operate trucks to pick up and deliver household appliances and furnishings to various locations and work sites. Assist in movement of appliances and furnishings. Determine the manner and sequence of loading cargo to achieve load balance and adequate protection for fragile items. Complete trip tickets, log books, performs operator/preventive maintenance and prepares necessary records. Issue government-owned major appliances, self-help supplies and several types of furniture. Perform required assembly and disassembly of furnishings and appliances, installation of carpet and minor repairs as required.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is subject to a pre-employment medical clearance examination and requires an annual physical examination.
  • May be required to wear protective gear, i.e. gloves, eye protection, steel toed shoes/boots.
  • This position requires the employee drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required and must be maintained for the position.
  • A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required and must be obtained within 6 months and maintained for the duration of employment in this position. Failure to maintain a CDL could result in removal from the position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift operator certificate within two weeks of initial employment.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 - Conditions of Employment.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator (Material Handler) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Motor Vehicle Operator (Material Handler) duties. I can 1) operate a truck with a gross vehicle weight rating of 33,000 pounds and air brakes; 2) secure cargo using tie down ropes, straps, or tarpaulin; 3) operate forklifts capable of lifting 2,000 to 15,000 pounds; and 4) use a computer to enter, revise, and retrieve data. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) and Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Operation of Motor VehiclesReliability and Dependability as a Motor Vehicle OperatorWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort: Motor Vehicle Operator: Driver uses more than moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls of assigned vehicle. Materials Handler: Works on hard surfaces and areas that require continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and walking up and down stairs. May work at rapid pace for extended periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries items up to 80 pounds, occasionally lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds. Is required to push heavily loaded hand trucks and dollies, or drive forklift to handle heavier objects. Working Conditions: Motor Vehicle Operator: Works mostly outside, operating vehicles in all types of weather and installation traffic. Materials Handler: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. Employee is exposed to dirt, fumes and grease, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects while loading, unloading and installation appliances and furniture.
