Employee serves as a Transportation Assistant aligned within Fiscal Service located at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Walla Walla, WA.
Duties

Duties will include, but not limited to the following:
Manages the Beneficiary Travel Program, administers beneficiary travel program benefits to beneficiaries and their attendants who meet eligibility criteria.
Utilizes various software applications to accurately determine and/or verify patient eligibility.
Determines which of several Fund Control Points (FCP) to use, entering authorizations, maintaining manual and electronic accounting records.
Performs reconciliations and adjusting account balances.
Coordinates patient transfer with other VAs ensuring the patient arrives at a specified time for admission.
Reviews requests for reimbursement of travel costs.
Writes or selects appropriate letters explaining disposition of unauthorized travel claims.
Prepares documentation and/or scheduling for traveler according to government transportation availability, government rates or substantial rates.
Collects, organizes, tracks and counts all beneficiary travel reimbursement forms and other documentation/information from various locations throughout the facility/
Performs other duties as necessary.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes arranging all modes of transportation including air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ambulance, bus and/or independent transport; applying transportation regulations and practices to perform a wide variety of administrative support; coordinating travel arrangements; assisting customers with completing travel vouchers, travel requests, adjusting itineraries, etc.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work involves various physical demands requiring the employee to be versatile in the many functions performs. These include sedentary work performs at a desk with intermittent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting of lightweight records or supplies. Position requires some mobility between various clinical areas in separate building location sites. The employee is required to work with computer equipment at least 75% of the time which impacts on hand and wrist motions.
