About the Position: Ft Hunter Liggett is located on the Central Coast of California between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The nearest towns to are King City 26 miles north and Paso Robles 50 miles south. Ft. Hunter Liggett is located in a rural area so a vehicle is a must; car and van pools, and public transportation are available at select locations.

Duties

Receive and evaluate 911 emergency calls and dispatch appropriate fire, police and ambulance services. Provide emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies. Refer non-emergency callers to appropriate civilian and governmental agencies. Monitor severe weather reporting system and broadcasting alerts as necessary. Monitor closed circuit television and alarms and taking appropriate action to address observed activity. Retrieve sensitive law enforcement information from computerized databases.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • This position is subject to shift work. The incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
  • This is a mission essential position and the incumbent is required to work regardless of weather conditions or Force Protection Condition (FPCON).
  • The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education requirements through in-service training that is offered locally.
  • The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment. At times work activity will be fast paced with multiple activities requiring attention at the same time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which involves operating multi-line telephones, computers, and radio equipment to provide information pertaining to emergency and non- emergency requests. Provide administrative and clerical support to customers and/or multiple agencies, provide direction to callers/visitors to resolve problems or refers them to appropriate office for assistance, and maintain reports, records, communication logs, or databases. Experience may have been obtained through Law Enforcement, Fire Protection, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Services Dispatcher, or similar activity is preferred but not required. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed by the next lower grade/level in the federal service (GS-05). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Decision MakingInterpersonal SkillsManages and Organizes InformationTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
